July 2010 Bivouac – Gainesville
The results are in: BEST MANSQUAD EVENT EVER! We had an absolute blast playing paintball at First Strike Paintball in Newberry, Florida (just west of Gainesville). Below are, as always, the highlights and lowlights of the event.
Highlights
- The field was great, with lots of variety and interesting modes of play
- The drive was less than 3 hour (for most people, except Scotty)
- The action was non-stop, and the adrenaline rush from it was fantastic
- Night time partying in Gainesville? Hell yes! Great chill atmosphere at “The Midnight”, and fun as hell Karaoke at “Brophy’s Irish Pub”
- Epic food at Texas Roadhouse
- “Grumpy” the Cab Driver
- Matt (Jacksonville Captain) and Mike (Orlando Captain) singing their rendition of “Endless Love” at Brophy’s Karaoke
Lowlights
- Once again, it was HOT
- Our official “referee” at the park was sort of a douche bag
- Some of the equipment (guns and masks) were unsatisfactory, and jammed
- Hour long wait at the Texas Roadhouse, even after we’d called ahead
- Matt (Jacksonville Captain) and Mike (Orlando Captain) singing their rendition of “Endless Love” at Brophy’s Karaoke
Badges of Honor
- Most Lethal (aka, MVP) – Captain Mike “The Bear Jew” Kesler
- The William Wallace Award – Commander Tom “Iron Chef” Tyson for a heroic and epic charge
- The General Custer Award – Sergeant Mo “Jihad” Elsh for heroism in defense, and the best damn combat roll we’ve ever seen
All in all, great time had all around. I’m going to post some pictures that look pretty painful, but, rest assured, paintball is FUN, and these bruises are badges of HONOR

↑ “Ex Wife”, “G-Funk”, Leonard, “Iron Chef” and Sean all getting ready to hit the battlefield

↑ “Old Man” (Tampa) came prepared with his own gear. He still got blasted a few times, though

↑ “Ex Wife” (Tampa) and “Nimble” (Orlando) pre-gaming. Notice the light blue polyester pants Nimble is rocking. Only he can pull that off.

↑ “Iron Chef” took it on the chin, and a few to the heart and arms.
↑ Scotty, after letting the damage simmer for a couple of hours.

I love that both the high and low light is our rendition of Endless Love!
